Fire Thread

Fire Thread was the first 3D printed system designed and built by Prograde Laboratories. We wanted to create a standard thread and slot system that would be easy to manufacture, as well as easy to install and replace if necessary. the idea was to use a hard stopped thread system  to lock the modules along all translation axis, and use the slots to lock the threads in place preventing the system from being unscrewed. the system works surprisingly effectively at the cost of internal functional space. Essentially the system excels at allowing us to build any rocket configuration we want with any external attachments we want in a matter of seconds but the slots take up too much space to allow us to embed anything within our motor mounts. development is still in progress to resolve this issue, but as of now it is currently the main construction technique used on all of our rockets (OK, both of our rockets)
